Midfielder Aron Gunnarsson says Cardiff City's players want Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's replacement to be appointed as quickly as possible.

Former Manchester United striker Solskjaer stepped down after less than nine months in charge of Cardiff.

Danny Gabbidon and Scott Young are in caretaker charge but Gunnarsson wants the managerial position resolved as soon as possible.

"Obviously we want to get a manager in as quick as we can," Gunnarsson said.

"That's not down to us who and when that will be decided.

"We can't decide what's happening at the club but the only thing we can do is focus on playing football."

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade is among the bookies' favourites to replace Solskjaer, although his club have rejected approaches from Cardiff, while former Celtic boss Neil Lennon has expressed an interest.

Slade, 53, who has also managed Yeovil Town and Brighton, said he was "proud" to be linked with the vacant manager's role at the Championship club.

Wales defender Gabbidon and former Bluebirds centre-half Young took charge of Cardiff for the first time in Saturday's 2-2 draw at Derby County in the Championship.

The pair will continue for Tuesday's Capital One Cup third-round tie at home to Bournemouth and Iceland international Gunnarsson has praised their impact.

"Youngie and Gabbs have done a good job and they're really enthusiastic," Gunnarsson said.

"They know exactly what it means to put a Cardiff shirt on.

"They've tried to get us to play with pride and no fear and training sessions have been good.

"The main thing is we need to stick together. Everyone knows we've got a good squad with players in the team that can win games.

"If we can get togetherness and people working hard for each other then it will all click.

"We have to stick together and focus on this one target."

"The boys are just trying to get on with things. The main part is to get momentum and try and start winning games."
