Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has agreed a new contract with the club, according to manager Arsene Wenger.

Giroud, 28, a £12m signing from Montpellier in 2012, will sign a reported two-year extension,external-link keeping him with the Gunners until 2018.

"It is agreed. When it's completely done we will announce it," said Wenger.

The France international is currently recovering from ankle surgery which is expected to keep him sidelined until the end of the year.

Giroud was injured during Arsenal's 2-2 draw at Everton in August and was ruled out for up to four months.

He was a key member of the Arsenal team which finished fourth in the league last season, starting 36 of Arsenal's 38 league matches and scoring 16 goals.

Wenger added: "We want stability and to keep the core of our team together. Giroud is an important player here."
