Fulham winger Ryan Williams has joined Barnsley on an initial one-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old is now set to make his debut for the Tykes in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One match at Rochdale.

Williams, who was born in Perth in Australia, started his career as a trainee with Portsmouth before joining the Cottagers in January 2012.

He spent last season on loan with Oxford United and netted eight goals in 42 appearances for the club.

He (Williams) gives us some extra quality in wide areas. We're still trying to bring a couple more in and we might get a bit of luck soon.

Williams made his Fulham debut as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Craven Cottage on August 20 and then started in both the 5-1 Championship defeat at Derby and the 1-0 Capital One Cup victory at Brentford on August 26.

However, he has not appeared for the Cottagers since and now heads to Oakwell in order to gain further experience.

"Ryan's someone we've targeted for a long time," Barnsley boss Danny Wilson told the club's official website.

"He gives us some extra quality in wide areas. We're still trying to bring a couple more in and we might get a bit of luck soon."

Wilson added: "His skills vary in terms of working in the supply line. He can run the ball well and is quick, he can also put the ball into the box well.

"He knows the other side of his game and is very conscientious of helping out defensively and positional-wise."
