Transfer news: Ivan Ramis released by Wigan and signs for Levante

Ivan Ramis has joined La Liga side Levante after his contract with Wigan Athletic was cancelled by mutual consent.

The Spanish defender had been at the DW Stadium since 2012, when he joined from Real Mallorca, but he was limited to 49 league appearances due to injury.

He suffered a cruciate ligament injury in early 2013 that ruled him out for the best part of a year, meaning he missed out on the run to FA Cup final glory and the club's subsequent Europa League campaign.

Wigan boss Malky Mackay said: "Ivan asked if there was a chance he could go back to Spain because he sees his life back there again.

"He’s not playing at the moment and is out of contract in the summer and we felt that in both our interests, this was the best solution to go to Levante.

"The contract has been cancelled by mutual consent and I want to say good luck to him, he is a good professional and he goes with the warmest regards of everyone at Wigan Athletic."

Levante, who are struggling in 18th place in Spain's top division, have also signed Nigeria defender Kalu Uche who has joined the club from Qatar's Al Rayyan.
