Reims dismiss Jean-Luc Vasseur after third straight Ligue 1 loss

Reims's French coach Jean-Luc Vasseur

Ligue 1 strugglers Reims have sacked head coach Jean-Luc Vasseur following a poor run of form which has left them just above the relegation zone.

The move comes following Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Lille, their third straight loss, which has left them only three points above the bottom three in the table.

They have won just one league game in 2015 and assistant Olivier Guegan will be handed the reins until another manager is appointed.

A short statement on Reims' official website read: "Stade de Reims announce on Tuesday, April 7 the decision to lay off their coach Jean-Luc Vasseur.

"His deputy Olivier Guegan will manage the professional team during this period."

Vasseur succeeded Hubert Fournier last summer after his predecessor took over at Lyon but the 46-year-old former Paris St Germain youth coach has failed to build on their promising form earlier in the season.
