Donald Tusk may be Polish, but he clearly knows what schadenfreude is.  The President of the European Council couldn't stop himself taking a pop at England's expense after their exit from Euro 16 - days after the UK voted to leave the EU.

European commentators have been laughing at England's ability to crash out of Europe twice in one week, with a Spanish football pundit remarking on TV: "It's not been their week."

David Faitelson, a Mexican commentator with ESPN sports channel, noted it was the second time in 72 hours.

"Iceland's dream provokes another Brexit," said the headline in Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.

In Marca, the Spanish sporting daily, the headline read: "Iceland ridicule England, kicking them out of  the Euros."

French sports news daily L'Equipe described England's failure to deny  Kolbeinn Sigthorsson his winning goal."Each touch the Icelanders took in  the England half seemed to make the Three Lions fans catch their breath,"  read a report.

Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport wrote: "England, another Brexit! A fairy story  as Iceland reach the quarters while Hodgson has already resigned."

Il Corriere della Sera said: "Brexit football as well, Iceland makes the miracle."

Kicker, the German football magazine said: "Their first experience of the  European Championship has been perfect - underdogs Iceland have bowled  England out of the tournament."

In Iceland, the National newspaper Morgunbladid hailed the win by writing:  "Iceland are among the best footballing nations in Europe. That is clear  after this historic victory over England in Nice."

Bild, the German tabloid, labelled the loss "Brexitson," in a play on words with Icelandic surnames.

Meanwhile Liberation, the French newspaper, described the day as "Black Monday" for England, noting that Iceland now go on to face France.

And French football fans have been joking that England was true to its word when it voted to leave.

Social media has been flooded with memes showing Iceland's victory over England, with Argentine footballer Fabian Rinaudo retweeting an image of a penguin forcing a man to fall over, with the caption: "England and Iceland."
