Cristiano Ronaldo produced an outrageous piece of skill to bamboozle Espanyol's David Lopez

Watch Cristiano Ronaldo beat David Lopez with an outrageous piece of skill as Real Madrid beat Espanyol 2-0.

Cristiano Ronaldo put his true showboating ability into the spotlight against Espanyol as he outrageously beat Los Periquitos defender David Lopez during Real Madrid's 2-0 win.

With the score at 0-0, Ronaldo picked up a pass on the left-hand side of the area and made a move towards goal. In his path was central defender David Lopez, but instead of doing what many others might do and hitting an early cross under pressure, the Portuguese took it one further.

He executed a magical elastico nutmeg - known as a flip-flap in some circles - with ease, leaving the Spaniard in his wake. For all the promise however, Ronaldo soon relinquished possession and Espanyol cleared their lines.

Ronaldo thought he had opened the scoring after half an hour, but his close-range finish was denied by the linesman's flag, moments before Alvaro Morata headed Real's opener.

Gareth Bale added a second late on as Zinedine Zidane's side cemented their place at the La Liga summit; with an advantage of four points and a game in hand over bitter rivals and second-placed Barcelona.
