Jonas Olsson has been allowed to leave West Brom with immediate effect to return home to Sweden and play for Djurgarden IF.

The 34-year-old defender has been released after nine years at The Hawthorns to join the Stockholm-based club just over a week before the Swedish season opens.

Olsson joined West Brom in 2008 from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen and went on to make 253 appearances, scoring 14 goals.

He started his career in Sweden with hometown club Landskrona before leaving for the Netherlands in 2005.

"It's all happened so quickly I've not had chance to say a proper farewell to so many people," Olsson said on the club's website.

"I will be back at the first chance to do that. But I'm really grateful to the club for helping me sort out this transfer.

"I still feel I have a few good years in me but such is the quality of the competition at Albion for places in my position, it was getting harder and harder to see a first-team opportunity.
