Marco Silva says Watford's ambition is 'really important'

Marco Silva believes his Hull team put in their best performance since he has been in charge of the club

New Watford head coach Marco Silva says the ambition of the club's owners excites him.

The Pozzo family have parted company with a series of managers since taking charge at Vicarage Road and the former Hull boss is Watford's ninth manager during that period.

And his predecessors Quique Sanchez Flores and Walter Mazzarri were given just one season each, finding that keeping the club in the Premier League was not enough to save them from the sack.

But it is a situation which does not intimidate Silva, who impressed during the five months he was in charge at Hull but proved unable to keep them up.

He told the Watford website: "Firstly, I really like the approach of the board and the owner.

"They showed me the project and I like the ambition.

"I'm excited. It's a good challenge and I'm really happy.

"The club want to improve for the next seasons and this is what I try to fight for in my career as well - to always improve, to do a good job and to ensure a good connection between the manager and the club.

"The ambition this club has is really important to me."

Sanchez Flores guided Watford to 13th in the top flight and an FA Cup semi-final but the Hornets regressed under Mazzarri, finishing 17th after losing their last six matches of the season.

Silva knows he has to improve on that and added: "It's important to us that everybody knows what our goal is.

"The club is moving forward as a Premier League club, but we always want to improve our position in the table and that's important for next season.

"We want to play good football, so that our fans feel well when they come to see our team play.

"We'll work hard every day to prepare for the matches and to do our best in every game."

The 39-year-old has signed a two-year contract and is already looking forward to the 2017/18 campaign.

"I'm excited to be here, to start to work and to prepare for the next season," he said.

"We will work hard to start well in the Premier League. Everybody knows it's a hard competition but we come with confidence to improve every day and this is most important for me.

"This confidence I will pass to our players and to our fans as well."
