Nottingham Forest agree £2m fee to buy Daryl Murphy from Newcastle United

Newcastle player Daryl Murphy

Newcastle United have agreed to sell Daryl Murphy to Nottingham Forest for £2m.

Sky sources understand Murphy has already undergone his medical after flying home from Newcastle's pre-season training camp in Dublin on Thursday.

Murphy will sign a three-year deal with Mark Warburton's side and replace Britt Assombalonga, who joined Middlesbrough earlier this week.

The 33-year-old joined Newcastle from Ipswich Town last summer but failed to find his best form at St James' Park, making just 15 appearances in the Championship and scoring five times.

Murphy's best season came in 2014/15 when he was top scorer in the Championship with 27 goals for the Tractor Boys.

The veteran forward has made 23 appearances for the Republic of Ireland, scoring once.
