Manchester City's Patrick Roberts has rejoined Celtic on a season-long loan, having already spent 18 months with the Scottish club.

The 20-year-old scored 17 goals in 60 appearances in his year and a half at Celtic Park, having made just one Premier League appearance for his parent club since signing for £12m in 2015.

Roberts first joined Celtic in January 2016 and quickly broke into the starting XI, before establishing himself as a key member of Brendan Rodgers' 'invincibles' team last season.

"The manager has been brilliant with me," Roberts, who will wear the No 7, told Celtic TV after re-signing for the club.

"He obviously wanted me back and so did Celtic. I had a decision to make after pre-season and when that came around Brendan Rodgers was obviously a huge factor in that. He is a top manager. I worked under him all of last year and I believe I can develop under him even more and become a better player."

Roberts, who featured in Pep Guardiola's City squads during their pre-season tours abroad, will be eligible to play in the Champions League for Celtic, where he could play against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich - who were drawn in the Hoops' group last week.

"I watched it [the draw] in Manchester with all the lads there, but I had an eye on Celtic to see who they got," Roberts added.

"It's a hard draw but it's good, and it's where I strive to play in, while we know what this club can bring to the Champions League. I haven't seen the Celtic lads yet but I'm sure they will all be looking forward to it and will be raring to go when it gets underway.

"Celtic Park was rocking last year in the Champions League and I'm sure it will be the exact same this year. I would love to be out there playing for the fans in that environment and entertaining them."
