Chelsea v Huddersfield preview: Alvaro Morata shrugs off knock

Chelsea and Huddersfield both need points for different reasons as their campaigns reach pivotal moments, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

Chelsea have finished outside the top four just once in the last 13 seasons but are in serious danger of missing out.

Antonio Conte's men go into the game three points behind Liverpool in third (with one game in hand) and two points behind fourth-placed Tottenham (same games played).

However, Chelsea have won their last four Premier League games, which has kept the pressure on both Tottenham and Liverpool. A win against Huddersfield would be the first time they've won five Premier League games in a row this season.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield, who battled to a 0-0 with Manchester City on Sunday, still need a minimum of one point to guarantee their Premier League status next season.

Here are some of the stats ahead of Wednesday's Premier League action that includes Arsenal's trip to Leicester.

Team news

Striker Alvaro Morata has shrugged off a knock and could start.

The Blues are seeking to sneak into the Premier League top four and Conte promised changes after Sunday's win over Liverpool, which Morata missed.

Willian, Pedro and Emerson Palmieri are among those who could come in, but defenders David Luiz (knee) and Ethan Ampadu (ankle) are out.

Tom Ince is fit and back in the squad as David Wagner has promised to make changes from their energy-sapping performance against City on Sunday.

Terence Kongolo and Chris Löwe are rated as doubtful after taking knocks at the Etihad.

Opta stats

This is the first meeting between these sides at Stamford Bridge since February 2008, when they met in the FA Cup fifth round - Chelsea won 3-1.

The Terriers haven't travelled to Stamford Bridge for a league game since February 1984, losing 3-1 in a second-tier match.

Chelsea have won their last nine matches in all competitions against sides with Town in their name, scoring 32 goals and conceding just six. Ipswich Town were the last to visit Stamford Bridge, losing 7-0 in January 2011.

Huddersfield have failed to score in 20 of their 36 Premier League games this season. Only two sides have ever failed to score in more - Derby County (22 in 2007-08) and Leeds United (21 in 1996-97).

In fact, Huddersfield have drawn a blank in 13 Premier League away trips this season - a joint-record (also Norwich City 1994-95, Southampton 1998-99 and Middlesbrough 2002-03).

Huddersfield won their first Premier League match against a side from London this season, winning 3-0 at Crystal Palace on the opening day - since then, they've lost all seven matches against London teams by an aggregate score of 2-22.

A team from Yorkshire hasn't won at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League since December 1999, when Leeds won 2-0 - in 12 matches since, Yorkshire teams have collected just two points at Chelsea (P12 W0 D2 L10).

Chelsea have won four consecutive Premier League games for the first time since November 2017 - they last won five in a row back in May 2017 (6 games).

The Terriers haven't won away at the reigning top-flight champion in a league match since February 1929, when they beat Everton, failing to win their 21 games since (D4 L17), though this is the first match of this type since January 1972.

Since his Premier League debut in August 2012, Olivier Giroud has scored more headed goals than any other player in the competition (29).

Merson's predictions

Huddersfield worked really hard on Sunday at Man City, but Chelsea have to win this football match otherwise Sunday's win against Liverpool will be pointless and just goes out the window.

So I think Chelsea will win this 2-0, but this is a big game for them to put pressure on Spurs and Liverpool.
