It will be Aberdeen who are back at Hampden to contest the Betfred Cup Final after the Dons squeaked past Rangers 1-0 in a tight semi-final.

Andy Considine was carried off after picking up a serious head knock around the half hour mark and it seemed like the Dons took a while to recover from that.

Rangers enjoyed most of the possession throughout the game and the Dons had to soak up a lot of pressure in the second half but the breakthrough continued to elude them.

And Lewis Ferguson, who said earlier this week that he wanted to score the winner to silence all his pals in the Rangers end, headed Aberdeen in front with only 12 minutes to go.

Lewis Ferguson leaps highest to head the Dons in front

It was the most important goal of the youngster's career so far and it proved enough to send Derek McInnes' side through to the Betfred Cup Final.

Gary Ralston rated the Dons heroes at Hampden.

How they rated

Joe Lewis

Joe Lewis extends himself to an Umar Sadiq header early on

It says much for his defence and the lack of cutting edge in rival attack he didn’t have a save to make until the hour. 7

Shay Logan

He linked well with Mackay Steven at times but didn’t dare stray too far upfield for fear of leaving space for Kent in behind. 7

Mikey Devlin

He needed eyes in the back of his head as Sadiq played on his shoulder but drew a defensive line Gers struggled to breach. 8

Scott McKenna

The big man didn’t enjoy Candeias and Kent nipping around his ankles but he was rock solid with the action in front of him. 8

Andy Considine

There was an extended break in play in the first half after Andy Considine went down injured

Try as he might, he couldn’t get on the front foot on the left before being replaced after thumping head collision with Coulibaly. 3

Lewis Ferguson

His creative edge was blunted by the midfield possession enjoyed by Gers, but he grabbed the goal his energy and efforts deserved. 7

Graeme Shinnie

Graeme Shinnie competes with Daniel Candeias during the first half

That early booking blunted his aggression but he still made timely contribution, not least tackle on Kent as Gers called penalty. 7

Niall McGinn

Niall McGinn misses a big opportunity early on

Started left and while he couldn’t match Tavernier for pace, his right peg cutting inside and at set pieces was a valuable asset. 6

Gary Mackay-Steven

He had Flanagan done for pace and looked the Dons’ most incisive attacking threat down the left hand side. 7

Scott Wright

Played just off Wilson, but he couldn’t get on ball often enough to link midfield and attack, though didn’t shirk defensive duties. 5

James Wilson

James Wilson and Joe Worrall contest a high ball

The striker didn’t get much change out of Goldson and Worrall with chances at a premium but he worked the press well. 6

Subs Used:

Max Lowe

On for Considine and his athleticism was a commodity well used in defence and attack. 7

Stevie May

Nuisance value up front but couldn’t always make it stick. 4

Dominic Ball

On in closing stages to see out the game. 2

Subs not used: Cerny, McLennan, Gleeson, Cosgrove.
